Fumina Tsuji: Cool Pastel Chic in Copenhagen

Fumina Tsuji is working as a Contributing Fashion Editor for ELLE Japan - but lives in Copenhagen. Not just anywhere, but in a beautifully styled apartment in Valby, close to the inner city - but far enough so there is enough silence to relax.

We have asked her about her favorite Copenhagen gems, tips for interior online shopping - and how to make small apartments look bigger!

You work as a contributing Fashion Editor for Elle in Japan - and live in Copenhagen. A super interesting combination! Can you share about your journey of how you got there?

“I got this job (my first job) after graduating from my university in Tokyo.

I had worked as a fashion editor for 5 years, and then moved to Copenhagen with my husband - now he is a master's student of DTU. The reason why we choose Copenhagen is that we love everything in this city.

We're obsessed with the atmosphere, food, vibe, fashion, culture, and beautiful scenery in Copenhagen. We visited here for a vacation two times before moving, and these experiences are the most inspiring travels ever in our life.“

What are some of your favorite spots for shopping in Copenhagen?

“In terms of Beau Marché, I often visit there to find some small goods like towels, vases, and candles and love to sit back and relax at the terrace of the café after shopping.

Besides, I've been getting into going to flea markets and finding hidden gems lately.“

What are the most underrated places in Copenhagen? (Not for shopping, but in general)

“I live in Valby, and people sometimes say that "it's far from the central area and an inconvenient location" but it's not. These are indeed some shady places, but it's much more quiet and also less crowded than the central area so I can feel relaxed and calm when I come home.

It's important for me that I can keep a distance from the busy city and have my own space.“

Where do you like to “go” interior shopping online?

If someone wants to upgrade their apartment styling: Where would you tell them to start? And how to go about it?

“I think I would tell them to pick up three colors that they want to use in their apartment as the basic tones.

For me, pink, green, and blue are the basic tones in my apartment, and I always buy interior based on the tones so it's the absolute first thing to do.“

I watched the cool video about your apartment tour on your Youtube channel - it looks so great! What are your best recommendations to make small apartments seem bigger?

“Thank you so much!

The easiest way of making small apartments seem bigger is placing some "transparent" furniture or interior in rooms.

I have an acrylic chair, coffee table, and shelf and they can make my tiny apartment look like it has more depth than it does.
